IĠM launches anti-racism guidelines for media professionals
The IĠM today announced the launch of a set of anti-racism guidelines designed to support journalists, editors, and news managers in avoiding discriminatory language, stereotypes, and harmful narratives in their reporting.
The guidelines, developed in collaboration with the Anti-Racism Platform convened by the Human Rights Directorate in 2021, provide practical tools and ethical standards to help media professionals report on issues involving migration, ethnicity, and diversity responsibly and fairly.
Drawing on feedback from stakeholders across Malta’s media landscape as well as established best practices from the UK, Italy, and other European countries, the guidelines are intended to strengthen journalistic integrity and foster a more inclusive public discourse.
The IĠM invites all media organisations, journalists, and editors to adopt the guidelines and integrate them into their editorial practices.
