MJA32 – Rules and regulations
The Malta Journalism Awards is an event organised by the Malta Journalism Awards Organising Committee within the Istitut tal-Ġurnalisti Maltin (IĠM). The aim of the Awards is to honour journalists or contributors whose work contributed to the enhancement of the journalism profession in Malta.
Eligibility
All journalists and/or contributors to the media in Malta and Maltese nationals abroad are eligible to participate in this contest.
MJA24 will cover works published between 1st January 2023 and 30th June 2024. Evidence of publication must be presented.
None of the members of the Malta Journalism Awards Organising Committee can participate in the awards.
Fees
To be able to participate, nominations must be received from members of the Istitut tal-Ġurnalisti Maltin or Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sport. Participants must first fill the IĠM Membership form online prior to filling the nomination form for the awards. The IĠM Membership Pack or the IĠM Premium Pack must be selected in the drop-down menu. The first option (the IĠM Press Card) does not cover participation in the awards.
Submissions
Every participant can make his/her submissions online on igm.mt by accessing the tab on the main page. Submissions must be made according to the criteria established for each category, clearly indicating the date and medium of publication and the category in which the news item is competing. A person can submit only one story in each category, with each submission being treated on an individual basis.
All submissions are to be made online in digital format. The application form can be found on www.igm.mt.
Submissions will be received by 8th November at midday.
All submitted works will become the property of the Istitut tal-Ġurnalisti Maltin, which can use them in any appropriate way after consulting with author/photographer, when it deems fit.
Judges and classification
All submissions will be adjudicated by one panel of judges, including the Chairperson, appointed by the Malta Journalism Awards Organising Committee.
Judges will establish the first three classified in every category in order of merit. If, in any category, the judging panel finds that submissions did not reach the desired standard, they may decide to classify only two, one or even nobody, depending on the respective case.
Three finalists will be announced in each category, with the winner in each of the categories receiving a trophy and a certificate. The two runners-up will each receive a certificate.
The winners will be announced at a Malta Journalism Awards Ceremony to be held on Saturday, 30th November 2024 at the Verdala Palace in Buskett Gardens.
