New Complaints Procedure Adopted
The IGM receives and investigates complaints where journalists are hindered from doing their job. This is taken very seriously and investigated. The IGM affirms its position that all journalists must be allowed to do their jobs freely.
To this end, the IGM will be following this procedure:
- When the complaint is received on igm.mediamalta@gmail.com it is assessed for validity. To this end, complaints need to be backed by any evidence at the complainant’s disposal.
- The essence of the complaint is then sent to the perpetrator for their version/side of the story with a time limit for reply of 6h.
- The IGM, in receipt of the reply will issue a reply to the complainant and place the correspondence trail on the website.
- The complaint will need to be closed within 24 working hours from receipt
This step is being taken during an electoral campaign, whereby the Nationalist Party will elect its leader. However, This procedure will remain in force even after this electoral campaign is over.
IĠM calls on both candidates that are contesting the current election, to ensure that all journalists aree free to do their undertake their duties and are not blocked in any way from doing so, both by the candidates or by the people that surround them.
Journalists are duty bound to cater their readers or audience with all that is happening during the short electoral campaign and must be free to ask the question they deem fit.
